Pigeon control measures can be used virtually anywhere

Apr 12, 2018

When most people think about pigeon control their minds typically go to pigeons nesting on a house or commercial property and the measures taken to prevent this from occurring again in the future. The issue with pigeons is that they can roost and nest almost anywhere that flight will take them. Meaning, they will nest wherever they can find shelter, even on an aircraft carrier, the Statue of Liberty, or the Golden Gate Bridge. Since 1998 we’ve been offering the highest level of pigeon control and pigeon removal to our clients along The Strip and across the greater Las Vegas Valley. However, a recent contract posed a new set of challenges, something different than anything we’ve tackled before. We were thrilled when the folks at Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project contacted us with the challenge of keeping pigeons off of a world famous art installation in downtown Las Vegas. The Big Rig Jig is a 50 foot tall, 25 ton sculpture constructed from 2 discarded tanker trucks. It has been featured at Coachella, Burning Man, Life is Beautiful, and even in the U.K. for Banksy’s Dismaland Show. As beautiful and unique as it is, all of its nooks and crannies make it an ideal place for pigeons to roost and nest. The challenge is how to keep pigeons off this one of a kind sculpture without installing bird spikes or bird netting which would take away from the aesthetic appeal. In an effort not to compromise the artist original structure, we decided to not add anything to this piece of art, but to trap and humanely remove the pigeons when necessary.
